Native of Anchorage, Alaska, Megan Bledsoe is a 21 year old harp performance major. She has been playing for over 10 years and currently studies with Kathleen Bride. Megan began her musical studies at the age of three on the piano, and continued through her education learning such instruments as flute, bassoon, electric bass, percussion, guitar, baritone, trumpet, clarinet, and
banjo. This diverse background allowed her to perform in not only orchestras, but also wind ensembles, concert and swing choirs, jazz bands, and even death metal bands. In addition to winning several musicianship awards at East Anchorage High School, Megan was a founding member of Urban Renewal, an urban percussion ensemble that performed for world-renowned Stomp! in 2004. Megan earned the highest marks in the Alaska State Solo and Ensemble Competitions throughout high school, and performed as first chair in the Alaska All-State Orchestra and Band, on harp and bassoon. In addition to performing with the Anchorage Youth Symphony, Anchorage Symphony Orchestra, Anchorage Opera, Anchorage Civic Orchestra, and several smaller ensembles, Megan has appeared on two of Melissa Bledsoe Fischer’s jazz CD’s, as well as on Kurt Riemann’s compilation albums, “Merry Christmas from Alaska 6” and “Merry Christmas from Alaska 7.”
Currently a junior at Eastman School of Music, Megan performs with NeoCollage on electric lever harp as well as acoustic pedal harp. She is also in charge of arranging, lifting heavy objects, and breaking up fistfights.
